Do you suffer from pain in the neck (or back)?
We’re not talking about an annoying neighbor or a pet that won’t leave you alone… but actual pain.
Well, if you’ve always wanted a massage chair for home use and you have some money to spend, then you’re going to love this review. While it’s possible to find a decent chair in the $1000-$2000 range, if you’re willing to spend a little more ($2000-$3000 range), you can really get a great chair.
At this price point, you’re getting into the mid-range of the market, and the chairs you’ll find here are full-featured, and most of them include extras and conveniences you just don’t see in lower-priced models. There are a lot of massage chairs to choose from in this segment of the market, so it was tough to narrow the field to just five.
We took a deep dive into the massage chairs in this price range and managed to cull the list. From there, we determined an overall winner. But, as you’ll see from the chart above, it was a closely fought battle.
The reality is that any of these models will serve you well. In fact, your “best in class” pick might even differ from ours. That’s okay – as long as you get the perfect massage chair, we’re happy!
About This Roundup
One of the interesting things to note about the finalists in this table is the fact that just as Cozzia dominated the under $2000 category, capturing two positions in that roundup, Infinity has similarly dominated this category.
Another point of interest is that there are two “off-brands” in our top five: Cozzia and Relaxonchair. That’s striking because it demonstrates how good the off-brands have gotten, particularly in the lower to the lower-middle end of the market.
Finally, in addition to capturing two of the top five picks in the Under $2000 segment, Cozzia is also represented in the top five here, making it the best-represented brand in the $1000 – $3000 segment. That’s quite an achievement for a brand few people have heard of!
Now, let’s take a look at our overall winner from among these, the best massage chairs under $3000!
Our Pick: Kahuna SM7300
Recommended For: Anyone, especially big and tall users.
*Brand Reliability is a measure of the strength and longevity of the brand, which by extension, is a measure of the level of support you can expect.
The Kahuna is one of the most well-respected brands in the industry, chiefly known for two things. First, they tend to build their chairs with big and tall people in mind. Second, they offer the best body stretch in the industry.
Both of those strengths are on display in this model. In fact, the SM7300 is specifically designed with big and tall people in mind, and if you’re average-sized, you may not “fit” into this chair because it’s simply too big for you!
Remember the scene from the movie “Alien” when the humans wandered into the spaceship and found the giant chair?
Well, the SM7300 isn’t quite that big, but you get the idea this is a monster-sized chair!
Because it’s so tightly targeted to big and tall users, we deducted some points from its overall rating, or else it would have been ranked higher. Given its particular focus, however, it appeals to a somewhat smaller segment of the market, which is reflected in our ranking.
Make no mistake. However, there’s a lot to like about this chair.
Feature Highlights of the SM7300
All those things, however, just describe the model’s “regular” features. Amazingly, the SM7300 has not one but two different features we consider to be stand-outs. These are:
Calf & Foot Massage
This is superb and rendered via a methodology you literally won’t find anywhere else. Where most chairs that offer the feature use a combination of airbags and foot rollers, the SM7300 combines airbags with rollers that simultaneously scrape, roll and knead your feet for an experience that’s simply out of this world.
A Six-roller System
The current industry standard is to utilize quad rollers on the massage track because these closely mimic the feel of human hands. The SM7300 uses a groundbreaking six-roller system which gives you a roller-based massage of unmatched quality.
We’ve examined nearly a hundred different massage chairs at this point, and the SM7300 is literally the only chair we’ve reviewed so far that offers this feature. You won’t believe how good the roller-based massage is.
Airbags
If the 7300 has one weakness, it lies in the fact that the model only offers 18 airbags, which is about half what our second pick has.
These are Second Generation Airbags, so the air massage is certainly of acceptable quality, but there’s nothing remarkable about it, and every other chair on our list outperforms it in this regard. If air massage is a critical feature for you, you’ll be underwhelmed.
That’s the only shortcoming you’ll find in the model, however. If you’re a big and tall person, you’ll be head over heels for this design.
Runner-Up: Infinity Evoke
Recommended For: Chronic pain sufferers who are no taller than 6’2”. Not for casual or hobbyist use.
*Brand Reliability is a measure of the strength and longevity of the brand, which by extension, is a measure of the level of support you can expect.
A tremendously good chair, but definitely more geared toward those with therapeutic needs than hobbyist users. Not to say that some hobbyist users won’t be pleased, but people who suffer from chronic pain will almost certainly find more to love here.
Here are the highlights:
As you can see, this chair provides a lot of therapeutic punch for a fairly modest price, but it doesn’t stop there.
Although the track is relatively short (S-Track, where the majority of our finalists utilize a Hybrid-S/L Track), you’ll find plenty of massage options, including one advanced technique (Shiatsu) and half a dozen pre-programmed massage options.
Plus, with 38 Second Generation Airbags, the Evoke gives the best air massage in its class.
Perhaps the best part of the Infinity Evoke chair, though, is the fact that it’s remarkably easy to use.
This is expressed not just in the generous number of pre-programmed options but also in the fact that it uses a two-step roller control system that includes a robust 3D Body Scan and a simple massage timer adjustment feature paired with a well-designed remote.
When you combine that with the fact that it also utilizes Space-Saving Technology, it’s easy to see why this one won our best-in-class award.
Having said all that, there are a couple of caveats to keep in mind. This chair is tightly targeted to therapeutic users, and with no extension module built into the Ottoman, people who are taller than 6’2” may not have an optimal experience with this model.
Budget Pick: Infinity Escape
Recommended For: Chronic pain sufferers up to 6’5” in height. Not recommended for casual or hobbyist users.
*Brand Reliability is a measure of the strength and longevity of the brand, which by extension, is a measure of the level of support you can expect.
The Infinity Escape is functionally similar to its less expensive cousin, the Evoke. As such, it’s also targeted primarily at users with therapeutic needs. The main difference is the fact that the Escape utilizes the Hybrid S/L Track, allowing it to massage your glutes and the backs of your thighs.
Users who aren’t especially tech-savvy will also enjoy the fact that the Escape features many more pre-programmed massage options (which is highly convenient and as such, will appeal to hobbyist users as well), and taller users will appreciate the fact that this upgrade, Infinity included an extension module.
The most curious change is the fact that while the Evoke offers four different roller intensity adjustments, the Escape only offers one. While the Infinity Evoke can be customized, making it accessible to hobbyist users, the Escape is a true Deep Tissue Massage chair, and can’t be anything else.
Unfortunately, this product has been discontinued. Check out other Infinity Massage Chairs we’ve reviewed.
Also Great
Relaxonchair MK IV
Recommended For: Anyone; taller users will be especially interested.
*Brand Reliability is a measure of the strength and longevity of the brand, which by extension, is a measure of the level of support you can expect.
The Relaxonchair MK IV is the lowest-cost model of our final five and a truly superb design. What makes it all the more surprising is the fact that it’s an off-brand that few even know about, making it a hidden gem.
Not only does it give you a superbly long massage track and quad rollers that closely mimic the feel of human hands, but it’s loaded with attractive features, including:
One of the chair’s two stand-out features is in its calf and foot massage. This is rendered via a combination of airbags and Shiatsu foot rollers, which gives you a world-class foot massage that’s superior even to what you get from vastly more expensive designs.
The second is the availability of memory slots, three in all, which allow you to save your customized massage routines for recall at the touch of a button.
This is an absolutely fantastic feature we wish more models would adopt and is of particular distinction here since the MK IV is the only model in our top five to offer it.
The chair is not without its shortcomings, however. You’ll find slightly fewer massage options and not quite as many airbags as our top picks, but for a chair as modestly priced as this one is, we were amazed at how close it came to capturing the top spot. It is well deserving of second place on our list.
Cozzia 16027
Recommended For: Casual/hobbyist users, people who suffer from chronic lower back pain, and users up to 6’4” in height.
*Brand Reliability is a measure of the strength and longevity of the brand, which by extension, is a measure of the level of support you can expect.
Rounding out our top five finalists is another off-brand chair of amazing quality. The Cozzia is an exceptional chair for hobbyist/casual users with a surprisingly broad spectrum of capabilities.
Here are the highlights:
The stand-out feature of the design, however, takes the form of the generous number of options the model makes available.
In addition to offering all the basics, you’ll find two advanced massage techniques (both Swedish and Shiatsu), which is unique among the five models we’ve highlighted here. Even better, the Cozzia 16027 offers eight different pre-programmed massage options, which is incredibly convenient.
All that is offered at a surprisingly modest price! If you’re a casual user, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better model.
Final Verdict
As we said at the start, these are the very best massage chairs under 3000 dollars. While we stand by our top pick, the Kahuna SM7300, here are some reasons you may want to consider the other finalists from the table above:
