Are you a student or a gamer? Have you been looking for a decent, low-cost, comfortable desk or gaming chair that offers ergonomic features for added comfort and won’t break the bank?

If you answered yes to either of those questions, you’re going to like what you see in this Coavas Mid Back Office Chairs review.

We’ll be quick to say that these are budget-priced chairs, which means they’re not perfect. The company cuts corners on quality materials and workmanship to keep costs low. In other words, it’s the usual trade-off you see in the value segment of the market.

On the other hand, for the modest asking price these chairs come with, they offer a surprising level of comfort and a decent feature set. If money’s tight, most people would call that a good trade, us included.

In the sections that follow, we’ll tell you all about the various models Coavas has for sale, so you can decide for yourself if one of these is right for you. Before we do that, though, we’ll start by taking a high-level look at all the chairs side by side, and then drill down more deeply. Here goes!

Before we take a closer look at the individual models Coavas has to offer, we’d like to draw your attention to one thing that all the chairs have in common.

Assembly

Whichever one you buy, when the Coavas Mid Back Computer Chair arrives at your doorstep, it’s going to come in a big box in several pieces, so you’ll have to put it together before you can use it.

Unfortunately, when the company remembers to include an instruction sheet (which is not 100% of the time), the instructions are a bit cryptic. Also, the low-end materials will work against you during the assembly process.

Holes won’t line up quite right. Screws won’t fit neatly into place, and you’ll find yourself wishing you had an extra pair of hands at a few points along the way as you assemble your chair.

If you’re doing it solo, expect it to take the better part of an hour. With an assistant, you can probably shave 15-20 minutes off of the process. The good news is that once you get it put together, aside from occasional retightening, there’s nothing else to do. But keep those wrenches handy – you’ll likely need them periodically.

*While aesthetics is a matter of taste, aesthetic flexibility is a measure of how easily a given design would fit into a wide range of home décor schemes.

**Brand Reliability is a measure of the strength and longevity of the brand, which by extension, is a measure of the level of support you can expect.

While the company doesn’t present it this way, the Coavas Mid Back Gaming Chair with Footrest can rightly be considered their flagship model.

It’s a surprisingly good chair for the money. Its boldly colored racing-style seat (available in either red and black or blue and black) though makes it difficult for the chair to blend seamlessly with most home décor schemes, which is the main reason for its relatively low overall marks.

Black/Red Coavas Mid Back Computer Chair Foldable Footrest

It’s got a generously padded seat, making it ideal for marathon gaming sessions, although the seatback isn’t quite as well padded. Even so, given its ergonomic design features, you won’t have any problems spending extended amounts of time in this chair.

Well…correction – you’ll have one problem, and it’s a fairly big one. The chair just wasn’t designed for long-term sitting or heavy use, so its design features work against itself to a large degree.

To keep the price low, the company, of course, used low-quality materials. Although the Coavas Gaming Chair will theoretically support upwards of three hundred pounds, more than a few buyers who weigh significantly less than that have reported the legs snapping off after just a few months’ heavy use. The nylon base just isn’t up to the job.

Another feature that’s at odds with the low-quality materials used in construction is the hideaway Ottoman. Pulling this out and activating the chair’s recline feature will allow the chair to pull double duty as a recliner. It’s not a great recliner, mind you, but it’s certainly acceptable.

Also, note that the chair is upholstered with polyurethane bonded leather. It’s real leather, but at the low end of the scale – leather scraps fused together, then coated with a protectant. Heavy use will cause it to start showing its age quickly, and it lacks the suppleness of grain leather. Still, leather in any form is always a welcome addition!

Black/Red Coavas Mid Back Computer Chair Adjustable Angle Backrest

All that to say it’s a chair with an odd bird. Its features all support long-duration sitting, while its materials are designed for light to moderate use, at best. For the money though, it provides excellent value. We provisionally recommend it but caution potential buyers to be mindful of its limitations.

Coavas Office Chair with Headrest

Coavas High-back Mesh Office Chair

Provisionally recommended. It won’t suit every type of user, but for tall people, it’s a solid choice.

Don’t let the unusual look of the Coavas Mid Back Mesh Office Chair fool you; it’s actually the company’s second strongest design. Consider this to be a task chair on steroids.

It’s got basic functionality and is upholstered with breathable mesh. While it doesn’t provide the most comfortable seating experience, it’s okay for short to medium-duration sitting.

Black Coavas Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair in Recline Position

There’s no recline function, but it does rock – a small feature but nice for people who have nervous tics like leg tapping. You can simply rock while you work instead!

The best feature of the Coavas Mid Back Desk Chair though is the adjustable headrest. That, combined with the chair’s adjustable lumbar support makes this chair a good deal more comfortable than you’d expect it to be.

Of course, it’s still got all the same limitations that the company’s other chairs do but is more broadly targeted than the mid-back chair we’ll talk about a little later, and as such, is a better “fit” for a broader range of potential users.

If money’s tight, and you don’t mind its unusual aesthetic, this model offers the best value in the Coavas lineup.

This is essentially a scaled-back version of Coavas’ flagship model, the reclining gaming chair. The Coavas Mid Back Task Chair sheds about ten pounds of weight as a result of losing the Ottoman and doesn’t recline as far as the flagship chair, but other than that, it’s got all the same features, strengths and weaknesses.

Unlike the flagship model, this one is offered in red and black, or white and black.

This is Coavas’ least expensive chair, but if you’re on a tight budget, that doesn’t automatically mean it’s the one you’re most likely to buy. Take a look at its core stats again; this model is quite small. If you’re much taller than 6’, you’re going to have a hard time fitting comfortably into it.

The Coavas Ergonomic Mesh Office Chair has also got a low seat back, which will probably come no higher than the middle of your back. If you’re looking for a high-backed chair, this one definitely won’t get the job done for you.

On the other hand, its small size and neutral color makes it blend seamlessly with any home décor scheme, and it won’t take up a ton of space. So even if you’re living in cramped quarters, you’ll almost certainly be able to find room for it.

It also sports a full range of ergonomic design features, including lumbar support, and is made of breathable mesh so you won’t get sweaty sitting in it for extended periods like you would in a chair with leather upholstery.

The padding is adequate, so you’ll be comfortable sitting in the Coavas Ergonomic Office Chair, but it’s conventional block foam and falls short of offering a luxuriant seating experience.

Overall, we regard this as Coavas’ best design but note that it’s also quite narrowly targeted.

Coavas Mid Back Chair Pros and Cons

There aren’t too many companies that specifically target students and gamers with their furniture and even fewer who do that while catering to the budget segment of the market, which makes the Coavas Office Chairs unexpectedly attractive.

While they’re not best in class in comfort, and they’re made with low-end materials that won’t stand up to heavy daily use, they do offer substantial value for the money.

Coavas Mid Back Office Chair Review Conclusion

The Coavas Mid Back Office Chairs are decent and offer good value to those on a budget, but all of their offerings fall short of greatness. For not much more money you can get a chair that has significantly higher production values. That’s not to say that these are bad chairs. They’re fine for what they are, but if you plan to use them heavily on a daily basis, you’ll find that they show their age quickly.

On the other hand, if money’s tight and you’re looking for a reasonably comfortable chair with ergonomic design features, and you only plan on using it lightly to moderately (say, no more than 3-4 hours a day), then any of these models would be a good choice. Just pay close attention to the chair dimensions to make sure you’ll get one that’s a good “fit” for you, and you’re all set.

On that basis, we provisionally recommend them.
