The chair is made from pressure-treated pine, which looks great without any stain on it at all. Still, suppose you’re looking for something with a bit more color, as we mentioned. Our second-place winner, The Polywood Presidential, is an interesting heavy-duty rocking chair outdoor in many different ways, but before we dive into specifics, let’s start with a quick stats review:

The first thing that jumps out at us is the chair’s weight. It’s heavy, especially since it’s a plastic chair. The name “Polywood” is a bit deceiving. When you hear it, you might think that this chair is made of a mixture of wood and something else, a composite material. It isn’t. The chair is made from recycled plastic, which we love, but make no mistake, this is not a wooden chair.

As such, we’re a little skeptical of its use as indoor furniture. There are a couple of indoor use cases, but this is not the rocker you’re looking for if you want something you can use in your living room. It’s fine in a sunroom, a game room, or on your screened-in porch, but in our view, this chair barely qualifies as a rocker for indoor use. It’s much more at home on your patio or in your yard. Even so, we grudgingly agree that you could use it inside in some cases, too.

The rest of the numbers are more or less in line with what we expected to see. The rocker’s seat is wide and deep enough to be a decent fit for the weight it supports, though if you’re near the top end of the supported weight limit, you may feel a bit cramped.

The seat height is just a shade lower than we’d like, but it’s workable and a sharp-looking chair. Even better, it’s offered in more than a dozen color options ranging from the subdued to the eye-popping.

If you want your Polywood rocker to blend in with your other décor politely, you can get one that will do that. You can do that, too, if you want one that offers an eye-popping contrast. There’s a color option for almost any taste and preference, and we love that.

These chairs are also incredibly well-made and durable. Plastic is easy to care for, and these rockers will last for years with occasional cleaning and periodic maintenance. The company stands by that, too, offering an incredibly twenty-year warranty on every rocker it sells.

In addition to being good-looking and durable, it’s also surprisingly comfortable. To enhance that, adding a seat or seatback pad is easy, allowing you to customize the chair’s comfort level to your heart’s content.

Although the heavy-duty rocker chair does not arrive at your door assembled, putting it together is delightful thanks to the high production quality that ensures all pieces fit together well. The simple, clear instructions to guide you.

Unboxing, sorting, and assembling will take about an hour. You can pay for expert assembly if you don’t want to go through the trouble. We don’t recommend it because it’s pricey, but some people might find value.

Although it has only a limited number of indoor uses, this is such a great chair that we can’t help but give it a solid recommendation. It’s a classic design; it’s “green” in that it’s made from recycled materials and offered by an American company that takes customer service seriously.

Budget Pick: Heavy Duty Bamboo Rocker By QQXX

Unfortunately, this product has been discontinued.

Our third-place entrant is a real treat. It’s a modestly priced rocker offered by a company you’ve probably never heard of, and it is gorgeous. The attention to detail is stunning, and this heavy-duty folding rocking chair would make a fine addition to almost any home.

Having said that, the bamboo rocker has a few issues related to its core stats that you should be aware of before committing to a purchase. Let’s take a closer look at the numbers to see what’s going on:

This is not a heavy chair, and it can certainly support a generous amount of user weight, but look at the seat height. This is not a chair for taller people. The big and tall height range typically starts at 18” and goes to 22” or higher. With a seat height of just over 14”, it’s a good fit for shorter, heavier people, but taller folk will struggle to get into and out of it.

Then, look at the seat dimensions. If you’re anywhere close to the upper weight limit supported by the chair, you’ll likely need a wider seat than the one offered here. While you should always take careful measurements of yourself before buying a new piece of furniture, it’s especially important as the chair will not work well for significant segments of the big and tall market.

Assuming the dimensions aren’t a deal-breaker, this chair would make a glorious addition to your home. It would look as good in your living room as in your sunroom, patio, or screened porch.

It’s got two surprise features, neither of which will make you fall in love with it, but both of which are, or at least, can be handy.

Also, note that this chair comes (mostly) assembled. It will likely take longer to take it out of the box than to prepare it for first use.

We’ll quickly admit that we love this chair more than its overall ranking suggests. However, given the problems we referenced earlier and the fact that an unknown brand offers it, we can only give it a provisional recommendation.

Amadon Rocking Chaise Lounge

This is the most expensive chair on our list of finalists, and it’s offered by a company you’ve probably never heard of, which means that getting post-sales support might be a bit of an adventure. Those two facts combined explain why the heavy-duty wooden rocking chair didn’t rank higher on our list and why it might not be a good fit for some.

Having said that, it’s a beautiful, comfortable piece of furniture that would look great in just about any home, blending easily with a wide range of décor schemes. Before we go into more detail, let’s do a quick review of the core stats that define the model:

These very good numbers work together to create a truly optimized chair for bigger, taller, heavier folks. The seat width and depth are generous, and the height is squarely in the big and tall range, typically starting at 18” and running to 22” or higher.

The only potential drawback is that if you are very close to the chair’s upper weight limit, the 23” seat width may not be sufficient. For most potential buyers, however, it will be just fine.

The chair’s frame is rubberwood, which is hardy, durable, and attractive. The upholstery is breathable, durable linen stretched over generous amounts of block foam. There’s nothing magical about block foam, but it’s widely used as padding in most home furniture, and there’s enough of it present in the chair to provide a comfortable seating experience. It won’t blow you away, but it won’t disappoint.

The heavy-duty indoor rocking chair also comes with a lumbar support pillow. However, we believe the pillow has too much padding to be useful for its intended purpose. Given the lowish seatback, you can’t use it as a headrest pillow, either.

Fortunately, a simple fix will make the chair a better fit for its intended purpose. Just remove the padding and re-stuff it to taste with poly fiberfill, and you’ll have a decent back support pillow. However, it will require a bit of DIY tweaking to get it right. It was a good try, and the company had the right idea, but the implementation was slightly off.

The company claims its padding will retain its shape for up to ten years. We doubt that claim. It is, after all, conventional block foam, and we’ve never seen a case where it held up that long. 

Even if it doesn’t, the chair is of sufficient quality and well worth re-upholstering and re-padding as needed.

If you’re not especially brand-conscious and aesthetics are important to you, and if you can afford the rather hefty price, this is an excellent option. However, there are a sufficient number of conditions in that sentence that we can’t give it a full-throated recommendation. Still, we do give it a provisional one.

A final note:  While most of the furniture you can buy online arrives at your door unassembled, this one is the exception that proves the rule. It comes ready to use. Just take it out of the box, put it where you want it, and have a seat. That’s fantastic and helps remove some sting from its hefty price tag.

Heavy Duty Indoor/Outdoor Rocker by LQGPSX

We didn’t feel our roundup would be complete without giving a shout-out to the heavy-duty metal rocking chair offered by Iqgpsx. This is an unusual product, and although it’s not as highly ranked as the rest, it’s interesting enough that its inclusion here definitely adds value to the review. Before we get into the particulars, let’s start as we’ve done previously by reviewing the basic stats that define the model:

This is a big but surprisingly lightweight chair. Given its steel construction, you’d expect it to be heavier, but the company shaved some of the weight off by using tubular steel. It’s got an 18” seat height, which works well with its 440-pound supported weight limit, and if you decide you want one, you can order yours with or without full-length cushions.

If you intend to use it mostly outdoors, you can probably do without the cushions. But if you want something you can use inside, at least occasionally, adding the cushion will help take the rough edges off the chair’s look and make it easier to blend in with most home décor schemes.

We recommend spending the extra thirty bucks and getting the cushion on that front. It’s better to have and not need it than the opposite case, making the chair even more versatile.

Although the company markets this as an indoor/outdoor chair, like the Polywood Rocker, it only barely qualifies as an indoor piece of furniture. Nothing is stopping you from using it as such, but just as most people don’t have wrought iron furniture in their living rooms, metal furniture, in general, is a bit of a rarity. In any case, enough indoor use cases (sunroom, game room, screened-in porch) qualify more or less as an indoor rocker.

You’ll love this chair because it can be used as a recliner or a rocker. Simply fold the stationary legs and position the chair as a recliner.

The cool thing about using this model as a recliner is that it offers Zero-G seating positions. NASA-inspired Zero-G seating does give you a feeling of weightlessness. It’s good for your back, can help relieve chronic pain, and has been documented to help lower blood pressure. Plus, if you’ve recently had surgery, it will help facilitate faster healing because it helps promote better blood flow.

In other words, it’s a powerful ergonomic feature, and you don’t typically find that heavy-duty porch rocking chairs offered at any price, which is insanely cool.

Like the bamboo chair, this one is collapsible, so if you don’t need it or want to get it out of the way, that’s easy. Unlike the bamboo rocker, though, this one is rugged enough that if you wanted to pack it in with you on your next camping trip, you could do that.

Unfortunately, it’s a bit pricey, especially for a chair offered by an unknown company. Even so, this chair is a superb option if you value versatility. You can use it almost anywhere, and it’s rugged enough to last years. It’s not for everyone, but for the right user, it’s amazing. We provisionally recommend it.
