How’s your back? If you’re like millions of Americans, it probably doesn’t feel great. Chronic back pain is, after all, one of the most common ailments in the nation. It probably has a lot to do with your posture. The problem is, even if you sit in an ergonomic chair at work, any good it’s doing you is probably being undone by all the time you spend sitting on your home furniture.

The reason? Most home furnishings are horribly designed, at least from an ergonomic perspective. The good news is, that’s changing.  While ergonomically designed living room furniture is still a small slice of the overall market, it’s a rapidly growing segment, and there are some surprisingly good ergonomic recliners currently available. The Human Touch Perfect Chair PC-500 is one of these.

Human Touch is perhaps best known for their massage chairs, which are some of the most innovative designs and highest quality in the industry.  What isn’t as well-known is the fact that they have a staggering variety of other types of chairs, all of exceptional quality, but there’s a catch.  You’ll pay a hefty premium for their designs.

This is a case of getting what you pay for, but the simple truth is that the cost puts all but Human Touch’s low-end models out of reach for many.  Still, if you’ve got some money to spare, or are willing to save, they’re well worth the money, a statement that definitely applies to the Silhouette.

In the sections that follow, we’ll go over everything the Human Touch PC-500 Silhouette Zero-Gravity Recliner can do so you’ll have all the information you need to decide if it’s the “right” model for you.  Ready to take a closer look?  Let’s go!

An Overview of the Human Touch PC 500

The first thing you’ll notice about the Silhouette is that it’s not your typical recliner. Its wood base is lovingly hand-carved (and hand-stained!) from 100% renewable, plantation-grown Parawood.

The chair itself is a rather minimalist design, sleek and modern, and offered in a variety of top-grain leather color options, including:

Note that you can, at the point of sale, opt to downgrade the upholstery to either premium leather or imitation leather. This will save you money, sure, but honestly, that would be like buying a Lamborghini and then painting it with dollar-store spray paint. We just couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. Still, the option is there if you want it.

Overall, the Human Touch PC 500 measures 47” x 29” x 41” and weighs 155 pounds.

While it’s an undeniably beautiful chair, we rated it somewhat low in terms of aesthetic flexibility because it’s modern, minimalist design may not blend in well with many home décor schemes. That said, if you like it, you like it.

Features of the Human Touch Perfect Chair PC-500

Adjustability & Comfort

There’s a lot to say on this topic here in our Human Touch Perfect Chair PC-500 review. For starters, it’s a motorized recliner, which sets it apart from most of the chairs we talked about in our recent roundup review. The motor itself is whisper quiet, and the reclining motion is smooth, so you won’t experience any abrupt starts, stops or jarring motions as it eases you back into position.

The controls are simple and intuitive, and located on the left arm of the chair. One touch with your thumb, and you can control your angle of recline precisely.

Of course, we wouldn’t even have written this review if the chair didn’t come with a full range of ergonomic supports, including exceptional lumbar support and an articulating headrest, with an extra pillow for added comfort.

If the Silhouette has a “signature feature” however, it would be Zero-Gravity seating options.

This is a significant addition to the model for a couple of different reasons.

First and foremost, Zero-G seating is highly therapeutic. By placing you in a position such that your knees are elevated slightly above your heart, it really does leave you feeling weightless, but that’s more than just a marketing gimmick. It has real, tangible health benefits including the fact that it improves circulation, helps lower your blood pressure and is great for soothing the pain in your aching back.

The second reason it’s so significant though is because Human Touch has lots of experience with Zero-G seating, given that it’s a feature incorporated into so many of their massage chair designs, and few companies do it better.

What you’re getting then, is a chair that provides more than simple relaxation. Sure, it’s well-padded and comfortable, but it’s a lot more than that. Granted, it’s no massage chair, but it’s probably the next best thing, and spending a few hours relaxing in it will leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. At the end of the day, isn’t that what you want from a lounge chair?

Storage & Extras

This will be a short section, because other than the “extra” of being a motorized chair, there’s nothing to talk about here. In fact, the addition of any sort of extra would work against the chair’s minimalist design.

Honestly, the Human Touch PC-500 Silhouette Zero-Gravity recliner doesn’t need bells and whistles. It’s a great chair on its own merits.  The first time you sit in it, you’ll wonder how you ever got along without it.

Some Assembly Required

Here’s the part you may not like. When the chair arrives at your doorstep, it’ll show up unassembled in a box. Unfortunately, the company doesn’t offer White Glove service, so there’s no way around it, you’re going to have to put it together yourself.

If there’s a silver lining here, it is the fact that Human Touch’s quality control is world-class, so all the pieces fit seamlessly together. If you assemble it by yourself, expect to spend about an hour, all told. It’ll go about 30% faster if you have a trusty assistant, which is the approach we’d recommend taking.

While we’re talking about putting the chair together, it’s worth mentioning that the materials used in the Silhouette’s construction are just ridiculously high-quality. The hand-carved Parawood. A solid steel frame and glide rails. Brushed aluminum accents. This is a piece of furniture designed to stand the test of time.

Pros and Cons of Human Touch Perfect Chair PC-500

We love everything about the Perfect Chair PC-500 Silhouette except the price. It’s a remarkable chair, beautiful and built to last. It’s also the closest thing to a “green” (sustainable) seating option as you’re likely to find, so if sustainability is a passion of yours, that gives you one more excellent reason to consider buying this model.

As we said though, the price may give you pause. As good as it is, it’s just beyond the reach of many users.

Final Thoughts on Human Touch Perfect Chair PC-500 Review

We heartily recommend the Human Touch Perfect Chair PC-500 Silhouette for anyone, but there are two reasons you may decide to give it a pass.

First, we keep going back to the staggering cost of the chair, and that may simply put it out of reach for you. Second, although a beautiful chair by any reckoning, it just doesn’t “fit well” with many home décor schemes. That’s going to matter more to some people than to others, and if it’s important to you that your furniture all blend seamlessly together, then you may find yourself reluctantly looking for some other model.

For everyone else, though, it’s a superb choice.
