It’s upholstered in bonded leather.

Bonded Leather Upholstery

Bonded leather is real leather, but it’s made from scraps that have been fused together. This makes it less supple and less durable than genuine grain leather. Even under the best of circumstances, if you plan on using this chair heavily and on a daily basis, you can expect the upholstery to start showing its age after about a year.

The other issue is breathability. Sitting in leather gets hot quickly. Spend more than a couple of hours in the chair at a stretch, and you’ll start to sweat. Given those two things, while this is a great chair for light to moderate daily use, it’s less than optimal for someone who’s looking for something to sit in for six or eight hours a day.

It’s comfortable in the sense that it’s generously padded and has great ergonomic features, but we’d rate the upholstery as a significant drawback to bear in mind.

In terms of adjustability, the Bellamy has the basics well covered. It swivels 360 degrees, it’s got a tilt tension control mechanism, and decent tilt range that spans 90 to 120 degrees, and an easy access height adjustment range.

Where comfort is concerned though, the Bellamy shines. We’ll talk about its ergonomic features in just a moment, but for now, let’s focus exclusively on the padding. Not only is there quite a lot of it, but La-Z-Boy utilizes a proprietary system they call ComfortCore Plus.

The only thing to draw your attention to on the ergonomic front is the fact that none of these ergonomic features are adjustable in any way. That’s not a deal breaker. Most of the office furniture being sold today don’t offer adjustable ergonomic features, and if this one did, it would raise the price significantly. Even so, it’s something to bear in mind when you’re evaluating your options in advance of making a purchasing decision.

Some Assembly Required

As with most office furniture, if you buy the La-Z-Boy Bellamy Executive Bonded Leather Office Chair, it will arrive at your door in a large box in several pieces. Fortunately, the assembly instructions are quite clear, and the production quality is very high. Even given that though, putting this chair together on your own will leave you grunting and cursing in a few places and take thirty to forty minutes. You can expect to shave ten to fifteen minutes off of the assembly time if you have a trusty assistant close at hand.

Pros & Cons of the La-Z-Boy Bellamy Executive Office Chair

There’s a lot to like about the La-Z-Boy Bellamy Executive Chair. It’s well-designed, comfortable, and except for the upholstery, made from good quality materials that will far outlast its one-year warranty. (Note: this model has a lifetime warranty on the base and the reclining mechanism).

It’s a great chair for the money. Honestly, our only complaint about it is the fact that it’s upholstered in bonded leather, which, as we mentioned before, has more than its share of drawbacks. If you can live with that though, you’ll like this model very much.
