Are you in the market for a new office chair? Have you found that conventional office chairs don’t do any favors for your back?

If so, and you’ve been considering experimenting with kneeling chairs as a means of improving your posture and alleviating your pain, but you’re not 100% sold on the idea, you’re going to be intrigued by the Superjare adjustable kneeling chair.

We’ll be quick to say that kneeling chairs aren’t for everyone. Because of that, they tend to be extremely self-selecting. If you’re interested, you’re bound to be very interested. If you’re not, then it’s unlikely you’ll even consider a chair like this.

Unfortunately, a top of the line kneeling chair can set you back several hundred dollars. That’s a significant investment, so if you’ve never sat in one before, it pays to experiment first before firmly committing to this type of unconventional seating.

If that’s the position you find yourself in, a budget-priced kneeling chair sold by an off-brand is a good way to dip your toe in the water and see if you find it to your liking.

This is a basic, but perfectly capable chair, and in the sections that follow, we’ll cover everything it can do and let you in on its shortcomings, so you’ll have all the information you need to decide if this is the chair you’ve been looking for. Let’s get to it!

An Overview of the Superjare Adjustable Kneeling Chair

First, let’s say a few words about Superjare itself. The budget-priced furniture market is filled with tiny off brands like this that import their goods from China for resale here. There’s nothing innovative or remarkable about their furniture, but it’s a good example of the kind of thing you can find in this segment of the market.

Chair Specifications

Before we get into particulars, let’s take a quick look at the basic stats that define this model:

  • Overall Product Dimensions: 24.8” x 19.6” x 29.75” to 34.06”
  • Chair Weight: 21.4 pounds
  • Maximum Supported Weight: 250 pounds
  • Seat Height Adjustment Range: 22.25” to 26.56”

These numbers are pretty typical of kneeling chairs in general. Even high-end chairs of this type seldom support more than 250 pounds, and when they do, the increase is usually a nominal one. Heavier users are, unfortunately, locked out of the market for this type of chair for the most part.

Even with the modest maximum supported weight though, this chair is a good fit for about 85% of the market and is suitable for anyone ranging from about 3’11” to 6’7”.

Adjustability

There are only two adjustable features on Superjare kneeling chair. You can set the seat height via a gas lift, just like you can on a conventional office chair, and with a bit of tinkering, you can adjust the distance between the seat and the knee pads.

Once you complete the initial assembly process, you’ll want to spend some time experimenting to make sure you’ve got the spacing right, and if not, make any necessary adjustments before you start using it in earnest.

It’s not especially difficult to adjust the seat to knee pad spacing, but it’s not as trivial as pulling a lever, either, which means that this type of chair is best suited to having one owner or user, unless the people sharing it are of a very similar height and build.

Comfort

Comfort-wise, it’s about what you’d expect from a chair in this price range. The seat and the knee pad are both padded with generous amounts of conventional block foam, making it well-suited to longer periods of use, but there’s a catch.

The upholstery is PU, which means two things:

  • It’s not breathable, so by the end of the day, you might feel a little hot and sweaty; this problem would be worse in a conventional office chair, but here, there’s not a lot of upholstery to contend with so it doesn’t matter as much.
  • PU isn’t a very durable upholstery. If you plan on using this chair for several hours a day, five or more days a week, it’s going to start peeling and cracking after about a year. It’s just not going to be able to stand up to that kind of punishment for much longer than that.

These two facts pretty well define the useful life of the chair. It’s not ruggedly built enough to warrant having it reupholstered, so once the upholstery starts showing its age, it’s probably time to retire it and buy something to replace it.

Assembly Is Pretty Simple, But…

Once you understand what you’re looking at, the assembly process for the chair is reasonably straightforward, but that’s the thing. Kneeling chairs don’t look a thing like conventional office chairs, so when you unpack the pieces, if you’ve never worked with or sat in a chair like this, you’ll probably spend some time scratching your head, and you may wind up putting a couple of pieces on backward.

Not to worry. The instructions are reasonably clear, and we were impressed that the production quality is as good as it is. It’s not perfect, so you may occasionally find that you’ve got to wrestle a piece or two into position. But given what we’ve seen from a lot of other low-cost furniture imported from China, this one’s at least a step or two above average.

Overall, you can expect the assembly process to take about twenty minutes, and since each piece is small and easy to handle, you won’t really cut that time down by enlisting the aid of an assistant.

Pros and Cons of the Superjare Kneeling Chair

We didn’t mention this earlier, but it’s something that should be counted in the chair’s favor. This model sports rolling casters, which means you’ll be able to scoot around in it just like you can in your conventional office chair.

It’s worth making a note of because rolling casters on kneeling chairs is a bit hit or miss. Some models have them. Others don’t. This one happens to, which makes it a good choice for someone coming from the conventional office chair world since it adds a level of familiarity.

There really aren’t any negatives we can detect that aren’t conscious design decisions. Sure, it could be ruggedized to last longer and support more weight. Sure, it could sport premium upholstery that would last longer, but if it did, then it wouldn’t be a bargain-priced piece of furniture anymore.

With that in mind, we don’t really have anything we’d recommend changing or anything we can point out as a deal-breaking negative. It’s a pretty typical example of what a value-priced ergonomic kneeling chair looks like.

Final Thoughts on Superjare Ergonomic Kneeling Chair

As we said at the start, these kinds of chairs are basically self-selecting. If you’re interested in taking a kneeling chair for an extended test drive, but you’re not yet willing to dump a ton of money into the project, this is a good choice.

If you already know you like kneeling chairs and are looking for a good one, save your money and get one of the better brands that will last longer. And of course, if you’re not interested in kneeling chairs, then you wouldn’t even still be reading this review. You’ll simply give the chair a pass.

That said, the ideal user for the Superjare Adjustable Kneeling Chair is someone who:

  • Is between 3’11” and 6’7” in height
  • Weighs less than 250 pounds
  • And is interested in trying a kneeling chair but isn’t ready to fully commit to the idea.

If that describes you, this is a decent, low-cost way to see if you eventually want to buy a good one. Use it for a year, and by the time it wears out, you’ll know. On that basis, we provisionally recommend it.
