Are you a bigger and taller user? Are you in the market for a new office chair that’s rugged and robust enough to support you properly?
If you answered yes to the questions above and are especially interested in an office chair with a stately, refined aesthetic, then you’ll love what you read in this—our LaZBoy Delano review.
Just about everyone reading this who lives in the United States will be familiar with the LaZBoy brand. They’ve been in the furniture industry for decades, and the odds are good that you own some of their living room or other furniture.
You may not know that they also make a small line of office furniture, and it’s as well designed as the other furnishings they sell. They do indeed, and this is an excellent example of their work. Read this post for more information on their other office chairs.
In the following sections, we’ll step you through everything this chair has to offer, and we won’t be bashful when defining its weaknesses and limitations. That way, you’ll have all the information you need to decide whether this is the chair you’ve been looking for or if your search must continue.
If that sounds good, read on, and let’s look closer.
Key Features of The Delano Big & Tall Executive Office Chair
The LaZBoy 45833A is a great-looking chair that evokes a sense of the Old World. The design has a certain elegance that many, if not most, people will absolutely love.
If you decide you want one, you can order it in black or brown, with a mahogany or weathered grey wood finish. And yes, you read that correctly—this chair has solid wood chair arms, which is something of a rarity in the office furniture world.
Based on aesthetics alone, we’d call this a very strong component of our LaZBoy Delano review, and if aesthetics matter to you, we think you’d agree.
Of course, looks will only get an office chair so far, and to understand what this model truly has to offer, we need hard numbers. With that in mind, here’s a quick overview of the numbers that define the chair:
Chair Specifications
Most of these numbers are excellent, but we have one concern here.
As you can see, this chair isn’t a lightweight. It’s a substantial piece of furniture and heavy enough that when you touch it, sit in it, or move it around, it will offer a feeling of solidity and stability, but it’s not so heavy that it’s a chore to move it around.
The seat dimensions and height adjustment range are good matches for the supported weight limit, but note that the height adjustment range absolutely marks this chair as meant for taller users with long legs. In fact, if you’re shorter than 5’5”, this chair, even on its lowest setting, may be too big for you.
We are a little underwhelmed with the maximum supported weight, which we consider decent for a big and tall chair but certainly not best in class. It’s fairly easy to find a chair that supports significantly more weight, so if this one isn’t enough for you, we’ll recommend a good substitute at the end of this review.
Our only real disappointment with the core numbers is the warranty. This chair is made in China, and the production quality isn’t as high as expected. Â
The one-year warranty reflects this, but we have found this chair to be more durable than the modest warranty might suggest. It’s still not on par with much of the company’s other furniture, but it’s better than expected from a chair with a one-year warranty. It’s not the world’s end, but the warranty is a little underwhelming.
Delightfully Comfortable And Adjustable
If comfort is important to you (and let’s face it, who doesn’t want to be comfortable?), then you’ll love this segment of our LaZBoy Delano review. Even if you’re not a huge fan of the old-school look of this chair, you’ll love the level of comfort it offers.
LaZBoy knows a lot about building comfortable furniture, and the Delano executive chair boasts a multi-layered comfort system that features layers of memory foam for the ultimate seating comfort.
Our only complaint is the upholstery.
Make no mistake—the upholstery is beautiful. Even better, it’s bonded leather, which we regard as a step up from PU in terms of durability and longevity.
Unfortunately, it’s also not breathable, so although the chair is amazingly comfortable, the more time you spend sitting in it, the hotter and less comfortable you’re certain to get—memory foam or not. We would love to see a variant of this chair with fabric upholstery, which would make it much better for high-intensity daily use.
It’s got the basics covered in terms of adjustability, but this component is somewhat less impressive. The arms are padded but not ergonomically sculpted and are not adjustable in any way. As we mentioned earlier, you can adjust the seat height and the tilt angle (to a maximum of about fifteen degrees).Â
Although the lumbar support is not adjustable, it is contoured.
That’s both good and bad. On the plus side, the lumbar support feature is excellent, assuming the chair fits you like a glove.
Unfortunately, everyone’s body shape is different, and if the chair isn’t a perfect fit for you, the offered lumbar support will leave you feeling underwhelmed. This is a chair you’ll want to try before you buy!
Does Not Come Assembled
Our LaZBoy Delano review is a little shorter than some of our other office chair reviews because we skipped the section on “extras” since this chair doesn’t offer any.
It probably won’t come as a great surprise. Still, if you decide you want one of these, on the day your chair arrives, it will come in a giant box and in several pieces, so you’ll need to spend a few minutes unpacking, sorting pieces, and putting the thing together before you can sit down in it for the first time.
The good news is that the chair’s production quality is pretty high, and all the pieces fit together neatly, which means you won’t waste time fighting with pieces that don’t feel as though they were meant to go together.
The build will take fifteen to twenty minutes from start to finish, but you can cut that nearly in half if you have a helper on standby on the day the chair arrives.

Pros And Cons of Lazboy 45833A
This is an excellent chair by any reckoning, and it’s offered by a company with a stellar reputation in the furniture industry, even if they’re not as well known for their office furniture. We like almost everything about it, but from a technical point of view, it does have a couple of limitations to be mindful of.
The biggest one is the upholstery. We love the bonded leather, and it’s a great pairing with the real wood armrests, but as we mentioned earlier, it’s not breathable.
Because it’s not breathable, you’ll probably not want to spend the whole day in this chair, which means that they probably went a little overboard with the multi-layered memory foam padding.
That kind of padding belongs in a chair designed for heavy daily use, Â but the upholstery works against it. If this model had breathable fabric upholstery, we feel it would be a better fit with the chair’s amazing comfort.
The other potential shortcoming is that it only supports 350 pounds of user weight.
At first glance, that seems pretty good, but remember that this is marketed as a big and tall chair. While there’s no formal standard of supported weight, the overall average of the market is 300 pounds for conventional furniture (that is, furniture not sold as “Big and Tall”).Â
So this chair only supports fifty pounds more than what most non-big-and-tall furniture supports. Not great.
The last potential drawback to bring to your attention is that not everybody is going to like the aesthetic.
We think it’s great—we love that old-school, refined look—but if you’re buying a chair for a super casual office space, it’s just not going to be a good fit, and that’s definitely something to bear in mind.
LaZBoy Delano Review Conclusion
We really like this Delano ergonomic executive chair but don’t quite love it. It’s a superb choice for anybody who loves the aesthetic and is looking for a wonderfully comfortable office chair for light to moderate daily use. Unfortunately, despite its super comfy nature, it’s not a great fit for users who want something for heavy daily use. On that basis, we provisionally recommend it.
Other Options To Consider
If you like this chair but it’s just not a great fit for you, here are a couple of other options you may want to consider:
Flash Furniture isn’t as well known as LaZBoy. That said, you’ll be impressed if you’re willing to take a chance on this chair. It is a solid steel behemoth, and although it uses conventional block foam for padding (a big step down from memory foam), there’s enough of it to offer a comfortable seating experience.
Even better, there’s a fabric-clad version of this chair, which makes it an ideal candidate for heavy daily use. This chair is a beast. It can handle just about anything you can throw at it.
Provisionally recommended for users weighing up to 340 pounds—if you can afford the chair and are looking for a chair with (potentially) lots of high-tech gizmos and options attached.
There’s a whole line of products to consider here, with the top-end models being capable of supporting a comparable amount of weight to the LaZBoy we just talked about.
What’s cool about these chairs, though, is the fact that they’re incredibly high-tech.
It may seem strange to describe an office chair as high-tech, but these belong on your shortlist of options to consider if you’re a technophile. A chair that offers heating, cooling, and massage functions? Oh yeah—you can have all that, and more. Â
We’ll be quick to point out that these chairs won’t be for everyone, but nothing else will even come close for the right user. It’s well worth a look.
