Key Features of the Modway Engage Accent Chair
At first glance, the Modway Engage armchair looks like a stylish mid-century modern-inspired accent chair, but there is more to this piece than meets the eye. It is also supportive and sturdy.
An average accent chair is suitable for occasional seating and extra guests and displays more style than substance. This dapper chair has a weight capacity of 440 lbs, which gives you an excellent blend of support paired with good design and artistic flair.
As you can see in our Modway easy chair reviews, the brand is known for mixing modern and contemporary looks. This armchair is a cool, retro-looking statement piece that accommodates everyone and is versatile enough to suit every room in your home. Its design is meant to complement just about every home décor, and it is full of style possibilities.
Three tufted buttons add a little detail to the piece. It’s an elegant-looking chair that isn’t overly ornate and keeps the tailored look of that easy-to-recognize modern design. The cherry-color-stained, rubberwood legs are splayed and can support a generous amount of weight. They provide a surprisingly sturdy frame for this larger-than-average armchair.
The Engage can be used to make a statement, offering a bold focal point to whatever room you put it in. Or, if you select a fabric color that compliments your existing furniture, it can blend more or less unobtrusively into the room if that’s what you prefer. The good news is that Modway offers plenty of fabric color options. You can choose from:
PROS
CONS
Again, what’s noteworthy about this color selection is that Modway offers plenty of neutral colors that allow the chair to blend seamlessly with just about any prevailing décor scheme. With enough eye-popping colors to choose from, you can use this piece to add a bold contrasting statement to almost any room.
Chair Specifications
Before we go any further, let’s take a quick look at the core stats that define the model. Here are the basics:
A few comments about the numbers above: First and foremost, the chair is large enough to support bigger, taller folk without being excessively sized. This means that even if you have a smaller home or apartment, it shouldn’t be too much of a struggle to find a permanent home for it.
Even better, since the chair only weighs 40 pounds, moving it around when rearranging your living room is simple. The seat height makes it an excellent option for taller people, and both the width and depth complement the chair’s maximum supported weight limit.
Adjustability and Comfort
While the Modway Engage Accent chair doesn’t boast any adjustable or ergonomic features, it does have a few things to say about comfort in general. First and foremost, it boasts an impressive six inches of block foam padding.
Granted, it would have been even more comfortable if the company had used comfort coils, memory foam, or other advanced comfort materials.
Still, with six inches of padding, you’ll find that it offers a comfortable, if somewhat firm, seating experience. It should be noted, though, that this chair was designed with occasional seating in mind. This isn’t a chair you’ll want to spend all day in, but it’s fine for a couple of hours.
Over time, the cushioning will soften some but won’t lose shape, making it an excellent choice for people who dislike sinking into a chair’s cushioning. The firmness makes it easier for taller people to get in and out of.
The chair’s polyester upholstery is a little disappointing. Polyester is the lowest common denominator when it comes to fabrics. It’s easy to clean, low maintenance, and can withstand a fair amount of punishment, but it doesn’t win any awards for comfort. Even so, since it’s not absorbent and dries quickly, it is a decent choice for furniture in a high-traffic area where it will be used.
This chair is designed to withstand occasional spills. The fabric was selected mainly to help keep the Engage’s costs low.
Assembly Required
The Modway Engage Upholstered armchair comes with everything you need to assemble it. The process is quick and easy, so you don’t need an expert to do this.
All you need to do is attach the four wooden legs. That’s it. Most of the furniture you can buy online comes disassembled, but you will be surprised how fast this partially assembled chair will be ready to sit on and enjoy.
Note that this chair has no additional fee for an expert assembly option. Even if it did, given the ease with which this piece goes together, we couldn’t recommend it in good conscience. In our view, Modway didn’t include expert assembly as an option. Even if you don’t consider yourself good at putting furniture together, you won’t need help.

Modway Engage Armchair Review Conclusion
If a mid-century mod is your preferred furniture style, then the Modway Engage armchair belongs on your shortlist for consideration. It’s incredibly sturdy and can support a generous amount of user weight. As importantly, it’s a fun, versatile design well-suited to various home décor schemes.
It’s also a well-priced piece of furniture, and although Modway isn’t a giant in the industry, they’ve been in the furniture business for a long time. As this piece demonstrates, the company knows something about designing interesting furniture.
As a side benefit, Modway makes many other living room pieces. So, if you spend some time browsing the company’s brand page, you can easily find a matching ottoman and other complementary pieces, allowing you to turn your home into a mid-mod showplace. We recommend it.
