Do you suffer from chronic pain?

Are you looking for a well-designed, mid-priced massage chair, that can help make you feel better without breaking the bank?

If so, you’re going to enjoy our iComfort IC1124 massage chair review. It’s a solidly-engineered chair with enough therapeutic value.

It is by no means perfect, just like other iComfort massage chairs, but it’s a solid contender and attractive to both chronic pain sufferers and hobbyist-level users.

We’ll cover every feature this model has to offer, and let you in on some of the things it can’t do, so you can decide for yourself if it’s got the right mix of features for you. Let’s get right to it!

An Overview of the iComfort IC1124 Massage Chair

S-Track Design & Quad Rollers

iComfort IC1124 Massage Chair Review S_Track Tech - Chair Institute

The IC 1124 gets off to a strong start, being built around an industry standard S-Track and quad rollers. Quad rollers closely mimic the feel of human hands, and the S-Track allows them to follow the natural curve of your body’s spine.

The only limitation to be aware of here is that the massage track is only 30” long. If you’re taller than 6’1”, this track length won’t allow it to massage down your tailbone. This isn’t a deal breaker, but it is something to be aware of.

3D Body Scan

This model utilizes a two-pronged approach to roller position adjustments and modifications to the width of the massage field.

The first stage is an automated body scanning process. Each time you use the chair, before your massage begins, it scans you and adjusts according to your body shape.

Should that approach fail to position the rollers where you need them, the 1124 also features buttons on the remote that allow you to make manual adjustments.

This two-pronged approach ensures that the rollers are always exactly where you need them. Though it is not yet an industry standard, we expect that one day it will be. We’re very glad to see it featured here.

Zero-Gravity Seating

iComfort IC1124 Massage Chair Review Zero Gravity - Chair Institute

Inspired by NASA, Zero-G seating is a popular, highly sought after feature. It enhances the overall massage experience by reclining you such that your knees are elevated slightly above your heart.

From this position, with most of your body’s weight pressing down against the rollers, it enables them to render a deeper, more penetrating massage.

The 1124 only offers a single Zero-G seating position, and we’d love to see more in some future model upgrade, but the fact that the feature is present at all has to be counted as a win.

3D/4D Massage Roller Technology

iComfort IC1124 Massage Chair Review 3D_4D Tech - Chair Institute

This is an excellent feature with enormous therapeutic value, but it requires a bit of explanation.

The first thing to understand is that all S-Track and Hybrid L/S-Track massage chairs already allow their rollers to move in three dimensions. That is to say, their rollers can move in the X-, Y-, and Z- axis.

4D Massage Roller Technology sees extension arms placed on the rollers, which allow them to move up to 3” away from the massage track. This allows for a deeper, more penetrating massage.

At maximum intensity, the 1124 comes quite close to providing a deep tissue massage, which is wonderful, and if you suffer from chronic pain, you’ll appreciate this addition.

A Good Number of Options

Our iComfort IC1124 massage chair review would not be complete if we didn’t draw particular attention to this portion of the review.

iComfort isn’t known for offering more options than its competitors. In this case, it edges many of its competitors out, which is a pleasant surprise and an unsung strength of the model.

Massage Techniques

As you can see, the chair has the basics covered, and offers one advanced technique (Shiatsu), but there are a couple of interesting things to talk about here:

First is the music sync. While this isn’t a proper technique, it’s interesting because depending on the type of music you enjoy listening to, it can either provide a mild and relaxing experience, or an extremely aggressive one. It’s worth your time to experiment with this.

The second thing to mention is the combination feature, which allows you to select any two options and use them together, which greatly expands the number of massage combinations and options available.

In addition to these techniques, the 1124 also offers the following pre-programmed massage options:

  • Comfortable Mood
  • Demo

This gives you a few basic options you can access with the touch of a single button, so even if you’re not tech savvy, you can begin enjoying your first massage right away.

These programs can be further adjusted via the remote through three different speed and intensity levels.

Air Massage Mode

Utilizing 43 Second-Generation Airbags, the IC1124 has an excellent air massage mode that is on par with, if not superior to the air massage of its competitors. Even better, the design allows you to selectively activate airbags by body region, if you don’t want a full-body experience

Those body regions are:

Further, air massage can be modified via the remote through three different intensity levels.

Body Stretch

iComfort IC1124 Massage Chair Review Body Stretch - Chair Institute

This is an important part of our iComfort IC1124 review, because body stretching is one of the most powerful therapeutic features a chair can have.

It provides almost immediate pain relief by taking pressure off compressed discs in your spine, and if you suffer from chronic pain, it will almost certainly become your favorite feature.

The body stretch is of medium intensity, so even if you suffer from acute pain, it should not be too intense for you. We rate this as an exceptional feature implementation for the design.

Point and Partial Modes

This is a nice feature pairing with medium therapeutic value.

Point massage mode allows you to interrupt whatever program you’re running, and have the rollers focus on an area 6” in diameter from their position when the button is pressed. This allows you to spend as much time as you need working on the sore spots on your back, and is a great addition.

The 1124’s partial mode is somewhat weakly implemented. Many comparably priced chairs allow you to specify the epicenter of the mode in much the same way you do with point mode. That’s not the case here. The partial modes are pre-set, and allowed only on the following body regions:

That’s not bad, it’s just not as flexible an implementation as you see in some other models.

Calf & Foot Massage

The iComfort IC1124’s calf and foot massage are acceptable, but not exceptional. It is rendered entirely by airbags, which is a bit of a limitation. You’ll enjoy it, but you would enjoy it more if it had rollers at the bottom of the foot wells.

Casual users will enjoy this feature, but if you spend several hours a day on your feet, you’ll probably find yourself wishing it had rollers to provide more relief to the soles of your feet. The airbags just don’t quite get the job done.

(Somewhat) Adjustable Timer

iComfort IC1124 Massage Chair Review Remote - Chair Institute

All massage options on this model default to a twenty-minute duration, but may be modified at user preference to either ten or thirty minutes.

This is an average implementation. Some of the iComfort IC1124 therapeutic massage chair’s competitors offer more granular time control, but few people would regard this as a deal breaking limitation.

(Fairly) Simple Remote

The remote is reasonably well designed, and the buttons are logically placed, so you won’t have much trouble finding your way to any feature you’re interested in using.

Pros & Cons of the iComfort IC1124 Massage Chair

At this point in our iComfort IC1124 therapeutic massage chair review, it’s clear that this is an undeniably good design. There are, however, a few things we were disappointed in, and we’ll cover those just below:

  • Foot Rollers – These would greatly enhance the calf and foot massage and add therapeutic value to the design.
  • Calf Heat – This is another upgrade that is in keeping with the 1124’s design philosophy and would make the chair ideally suited for those who spend hours a day on their feet or who suffer from chronic pain in their lower extremities.
  • Lumbar Heat – We regard it as a real weakness that a massage chair designed with therapy in mind does not have heat at all. This would be a superb addition.
  • Multiple Zero-G Positions – Since it already has one, this seems like it would be an easy upgrade.
  • Extendable Ottoman – As it stands now, the chair will only accommodate users up to 6’1” in height. This addition would make the 1124 attractive to a much wider audience.

iComfort IC1124 Therapeutic Massage Chair Review Conclusion

Even with the absence of a heat function, the iComfort IC1124 massage chair is a solid contender with a mix of features that makes it attractive to both hobbyist users and those who suffer from therapeutic pain.

The absence of heat, while somewhat disappointing, is also easy to work around. Armed with a heating pad, you can enhance your massage experiment easily enough. Plus, the other features this model offers are well-implemented, making it well worth your consideration, provided you’re no taller than 6’1”.
