Have you been struggling to find the “right” chair for you?
Have you run into problems trying to find a chair that’s both wide enough to allow you to sit comfortably while simultaneously providing an adequate height adjustment range and well-implemented ergonomic features?
We understand how challenging it can be, and for some reason, many furniture manufacturers seem to think that short people are the only ones who have wide hips. Why they believe this, we don’t really know, but finding a good office chair that offers both a wide seat and a good seat height adjustment range that looks decent and doesn’t skimp on comfort and “extras” can be a real challenge unless you’ve got tons of money to spend.
If you’ve found the search frustrating so far, then our review of the BrylaneHome Extra Wide Woman’s Office Chair will probably make you smile. We’ll be quick to say that this isn’t a perfect chair, but it fills an important niche. It’s not the right chair for everyone, but for the right user, this model is worth its weight in gold!
In the sections that follow, we’ll go over everything BrylaneHome gets right, and tell you about the aspects of the design that left us underwhelmed, so you’ll have all the information you need to decide for yourself if this is the model you’ve been searching for. If that sounds good to you, let’s get started!
An Overview of the BrylaneHome Extra Wide Woman’s Office Chair
Sturdy, attractive, and inviting. Those are the first things that came to mind when we initially laid eyes on this chair. It’s a surprisingly elegant design, but that’s not the first thing we noticed. No, the first thing we noticed was that it looked like a chair that cried out for someone to sit in it.
We’ll have more to say about comfort in the next section here in our BrylaneHome Extra Wide Woman’s Office Chair. Before we get to that though, let’s take a quick look at the chair’s basic stats:
There are some interesting things to highlight here, first and foremost is the fact that this is a big, sturdy chair that can support a lot of weight. We found two different statistics where the maximum supported weight was concerned, with one saying the chair could support a maximum of 350 pounds, and the other listing 500 pounds.
We were able to confirm that the 500-pound figure is correct and confirmed this with a number of customers who have purchased the chair and who weigh more than 350 pounds and have used it without difficulty, so if you see a note somewhere mentioning a 350-pound weight limit, know that it is incorrect.
Second, with a five and a quarter inch height adjustment range and a 24.25” wide seat, it can accommodate just about any big and tall person, so if you’re a taller woman with hips, don’t worry that you won’t be able to fit into this chair. The odds are that it’ll fit you like a glove!
Finally, we love the fact that this chair is offered in three different colors. White is a bit of a rarity in the office furniture world, but the “ice” colored chair is a thing of beauty. We’re less sold on the orange, but hey, if that’s your color, this is one of only a handful of chairs you can get in orange, which is cool.
The point though is that more color options means that the chair is bound to blend in seamlessly with a broader range of home décor schemes and styles, and that’s a very good thing.
Adjustability and Comfort
We’ll start by saying that this is a delightfully wide chair, and you can tell at a glance that it’s generously padded, and it just looks like it would be comfortable. It certainly doesn’t disappoint on that front! With pillowed block foam augmented by air pocket coil springs, the BrylaneHome Extra Wide Woman’s Office Chair is ideal for long-duration sitting.
The air pocket coil springs are a nice touch, and we’d rate them as the stand-out feature of the design. While not as good as say, memory foam, it offers more comfort than conventional block foam without too much of an addition to the price.
Comfort is defined by more than just padding, however, and this model sports a trio of well-implemented ergonomic features including excellent lumbar support, a padded headrest for neck and head support and a waterfall-style seat that helps improve the circulation in your legs and further enhances the chair’s ability to support you for long periods of time.
The armrests are also ergonomically sculpted, but unfortunately, this feature isn’t as well implemented as the others, because the arms are stationary. There’s no means to tweak or adjust their position to provide an even better fit. It’s an admitted weakness in the design, but not a crippling one.
There are three big things to remember where this chair’s adjustability is concerned:
All that to say, if you’re a petite user, this is the wrong chair for you!
One final thing to note here in this section of our BrylaneHome Woman’s Office Chair review is that while the chair does tilt and rock slightly, it doesn’t have a recline function. If you’re looking for a reclining chair, this model isn’t going to do much for you.
Does Not Come Assembled
As with most office furniture, this chair will arrive at your house in a box, in multiple pieces. The assembly process is relatively straightforward, and you can expect it to take about thirty minutes. You can shave about ten minutes off of that if you have a trusty assistant close at hand.
If you do it solo, the biggest hurdle will be connecting the seat and seat back with the arms, and there will probably come a point where you wish you had an extra hand or two, but it’s doable if you stick with it.
Once it’s put together, the only thing you’ll need to do is re-tighten the arms periodically.
Pros & Cons of the Brylanehome Woman’s Office Chair
Here are the things we think you’ll like best about the BrylaneHome Extra Wide Women’s Office Chair:
And here are some of the shortcomings of the design:
Overall, we judge the pros to outweigh the cons, but the negative aspects of the design are serious enough to give many users pause, and rightly so.
BrylaneHome Woman’s Office Chair Review Conclusion
The BrylaneHome Extra Wide Woman’s Office Chair is a good product, but it falls short of greatness. It’s specifically designed for bigger, taller users, and women in particular, which makes it a bit of a niche product.
We’d suggest that any prospective buyer take careful measurements before making a purchase, and if possible, try the chair out in a showroom to make sure it’s a good fit. Assuming its dimensions align with yours, we recommend it, but note that it’s a bit on the pricey side, especially given the lack of adjustability where its ergonomic features are concerned. Overall then, we give it a provisional recommendation.
