Check Current Price

Are you on a budget, and looking for a full-featured massage chair, priced in the mid-range that won’t break the bank?

Are you looking for more than a simple hobbyist-level chair that has some real therapeutic value?

If you answered yes to either of those questions, then you’ll be intrigued by our detailed review of the Infinity IT 8100 Massage Chair.

Infinity isn’t one of the premier brands on the market. They’re not as well-known as some others. Nonetheless, they make good products, and the 8100 is no exception, offering solid value for the money, just like other chairs in the Infinity lineup.

As you’ll see in the sections that follow, it doesn’t quite get everything right, but it’s a solid entry that will serve you well. We’ll break down each of the features that drive the chair so you can make an informed decision.

S-Track Design & Tri-Rollers

The 8100 has relatively good bones. However, its roller massage has a slightly weaker implementation than many of their competitors.

The current industry standard is to use quad rollers, which closely mimic the feel of human hands. The 8100 uses tri-rollers (one at the top, two at the bottom). The result is slightly inferior and slightly more mechanical feeling, lacking some of the flexibility of quad rollers.

It seems clear that this was a cost-saving move. But if you’ve got your heart set on a massage chair that gives you the feeling of human hands, you’re bound to be slightly disappointed by this model. The massage is certainly not bad. It’s just that quad rollers do a better job on the whole.

Nonetheless, the 8100 is built around an S-Track, which allows its rollers to trace the natural curve of the body’s spine. This improves the massage experience, almost offsetting the tri-roller setup.

3D Body Scan

Infinity refers to this as “Body Shape Sensing” Technology. But, it amounts to the same thing as the standard 3D Body Scanning Tech you find in many other models. Before the massage begins, the chair will scan the body and make small adjustments to the position of the rollers to ensure they hit the body’s pressure points.

If the technology gets it wrong (which sometimes happens), the Infinity 8100 massage chair features buttons on the remote which allow you to manually tweak both the roller positions and the width of the massage field to ensure the best possible massage, every time.

This two-pronged approach is becoming increasingly common in chairs at the mid-range and up. Though, it is not quite an industry standard yet. So it’s very good to see it in this model, and should be considered one of its strong points.

Zero-Gravity Seating

This is another strong point of the 8100’s design. Zero-G seating isn’t all that common in chairs in the mid-range. To see it at all is a real win. Infinity offers two different seating positions in this model, which we count as a very strong feature implementation.

Zero-G seating is a highly sought after feature because it has a direct impact on the overall massage experience.

By reclining the user to a point where the knees are elevated slightly above the heart, most of the body’s weight presses down against the rollers. This allows them to render a deeper and more satisfying massage.

Combining this with body scanning virtually eliminates the slight reduction in massage quality suffered by using tri-rollers. A quad-roller chair with these features may yield a slightly superior result, but it will also cost you more.

A Generous Number Of Options

Infinity does a surprisingly good job here. Once more, we have to count this as an excellent feature implementation. The number of techniques and pre-programmed massages are only about average. Nevertheless, the 8100 has a secret weapon that gives it more massage combinations and customization options than most other chairs.

All of its massage options can be adjusted through five levels of intensity, instead of the usual three.

It should be noted that at maximum intensity, the massage the chair is capable of or comes quite close to being a deep tissue massage. It isn’t. But, it’s pretty close to that. As such, it will probably be too much for casual or hobbyist users.

Having said that, let’s look at the techniques on offer. They are:

  • Kneading
  • Tapping
  • Kneading & Tapping
  • Knocking
  • Shiatsu

As you can see, it’s got the basics covered. Plus, you get access to one advanced technique. That’s about average for chairs at this price range.

In addition to those, the chair also offers the following pre-programmed massage options:

  • Recover
  • Refresh
  • Extend
  • Relax

In the user manual, they try to sell “Extend” as a kind of body stretch. But, we did not find it to be so. There is some nominal amount of stretching that occurs during the program but it’s not enough to be comparable to a chiropractic adjustment. As such, doesn’t offer any of those benefits.

We’ve seen a few other Infinity IT-8100 reviews that refer to this as a proper body stretch. If that’s what Infinity intended, then they missed the mark. Still, you won’t be disappointed by the massage itself.

Air Massage Mode

Featuring 28 Second Generation Airbags, at first glance, the Infinity IT 8100 massage chair appears to be about average in this regard, when compared to other chairs in its price range.

The air massage you get from it is excellent – no better or worse than most of the other models it competes with. Having said that, while quality is on par, there are two aspects of the feature implementation that set the 8100 apart in this area.

Infinity IT 8100 Massage Chair Brown Side - Chair Institute

First is the fact that like the roller-based massage, the 8100 can be modified via the remote through five intensity levels. Second, in addition to being able to activate full-body mode, you can activate the airbags in specific areas of the body. These are:

  • Arms & Shoulders
  • Upper Body
  • Legs & Feet

In most comparably priced chairs, Air Massage Mode is binary. You can either turn it on or turn it off. There’s no way to fine tune it. Taken together these two advantages are decisive. And, we count this to be one of the strongest feature implementations in the 8100.

Note: There are also airbags in the head and neck area. These are included in the “Upper Body” region, mentioned above, making the 8100’s air massage a true full-body experience.

Seat Vibration

There are people who claim this feature provides some therapeutic benefit by improving blood flow and circulation in the hips and thighs. We have never found that to be the case, but some people swear by this function.

If you like a vibration-style massage, you’ll wind up using this feature extensively. However, many people say that it’s too rough, and feels like the seat plate is trying to shake them out of the chair. You’ll need to experiment a bit to see whether or not it’s for you.

Even though we’re not huge fans, we still have to give Infinity high marks for implementation. Because like the other massage options, the intensity of the vibration can be adjusted through five levels, instead of the usual three.

Lumbar/Waist Heat

Heat is always a welcome addition in any massage chair, and we were pleased to see it here. Again, Infinity gets high marks for implementation, because most chairs at this price range include heat in the lumbar region only.

The 8100’s heat function is slightly larger than that, and includes the waist, hips and lumbar region. More heat is always better than less, which makes this a win. If you suffer from chronic lower back or hip pain, this will likely be your favorite aspect of the design.

Calf & Foot Massage

This is an average feature implementation that includes a calf massage rendered by airbags, and a foot massage rendered by rollers at the bottom of the foot wells. There’s nothing remarkable here, save for the fact that the air intensity can be adjusted through five levels.

The real win here though, is the presence of the foot rollers. This is not quite an industry standard, but it is fairly common, and is a high-value feature, especially appreciated by people who spend several hours of each day on their feet.

Zone Massage Function

This is a small feature, but one we find incredibly important. And we’re always glad to see it in any model. Zone massage allows you to interrupt whatever program you’re running when the rollers hit a tender spot on your back.

This tells the chair to focus on that spot, and the area six inches in diameter around it until you press the button again. The ability to focus the rollers like that provides genuine therapeutic benefit. A huge win for the model!

Music Sync Function

Other Infinity IT-8100 massage chair reviews we’ve seen draw special attention to this feature. We agree that it’s interesting, but we don’t find it especially compelling because it doesn’t do much to enhance the massage experience.

This feature ties the movement of the massage rollers to the beat of whatever music you’re listening to, in a sense, creating a “music-driven massage style.”

Depending on the kind of music you like, this can result in the rollers beating you half to death, or gently rocking you to sleep. Again, an interesting feature, but not one that would compel most people to buy the chair.

Timer Adjustment Options

Infinity broke with industry standards here, offering a partial implementation of the timer adjustment feature. Normally, in chairs that offer this as an option, you’re allowed to adjust massage times in five-minute increments.

In this case, all massage options default to thirty minutes, and can be adjusted to either 10, 20, or 45 minutes in duration, so some flexibility, but not quite as much as you see in other chairs offering a timer adjustment.

Even so, we have to count this as a win for the 8100, because not many chairs in the mid-range allow this level of customization. Imperfect or not, it’s still a good addition.

Extendable Ottoman

Another small but important feature. The extension module on the ottoman allows the chair to accommodate users up to 6’4” tall, making it attractive to a broader segment of the market than many other models it competes with.

MP3 Support

Its presence or absence is never a deal breaker, but it’s an immensely popular one, and always welcome when present.

In this case, you can download your favorite music onto a USB jump drive, plug it into the chair, and enjoy music from the built-in speakers as you get your massage.

Infinity IT 8100 Massage Chair Remote - Chair Institute

Four Memory Slots

Given that the IT-8100 offers more customization options than most other chairs in its price range, we were very pleased to see the addition of memory slots.

These are accessible via the remote in one touch, and allow you to save your preferred settings for instant recall later. A very rare feature at any price range, and an excellent addition here.

Surprisingly Simple Remote

While the Infinity IT 8100 massage chair has several high-value features, the included remote is well-designed, making it easy to navigate through the various options. While there is a slight learning curve, you’ll be able to sit down and enjoy your first massage in a matter of minutes. A job very well done by Infinity.

Pros & Cons of the Infinity 8100 Massage Chair

As you have seen in the sections above, the Infinity IT 8100 Massage Chair is packed with features. Many of them are strongly implemented. It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few things we wish had been done differently or better. But in this case, there’s not really much to complain about.

Here are a few things we’d like to see in a future model upgrade:

  • Quad rollers
  • A third Zero-G seating option
  • A true body stretch feature
  • Calf heat for added therapeutic value
  • Precise temperature controls

That’s it really, and aside from the absence of quad rollers, those are all fairly minor nits.

Infinity 8100 Massage Chair Review Conclusion

Any way you look at it, this is a solid design. While we were less impressed with Infinity’s budget-priced offering, this one was designed to impress, and it succeeds. We’d’ recommend this model to anyone up to 6’4” in height, without reservation.
