Have you struggled to find a massage chair you could fit into because you’re just too tall for most of them?
Are you frustrated that you can’t seem to find relief from your chronic pain?
If you answered yes to either of those questions, then our Kahuna SM7300 review is going to have you smiling from ear-to-ear.
This is the first massage chair we’ve studied to date that was custom made to cater to the big and tall crowd, and it is a fantastic addition to the Kahuna massage chair lineup.
We’ll go over its various features in detail in the sections below to help you on your quest to find the perfect massage chair for you.
Let’s get started!
Kahuna SM7300 Massage Chair Overview
This isn’t a feature per se, but we regard it as what makes the chair stand out from the competition at its price point.
This Kahuna SM7300 massage chair is big! It’s wider and sturdier than other chairs on the market, and its design can comfortably accommodate users up to 6’5” tall, and up to 320 pounds. It is regarded by many as the best massage chair for a tall person.
Given that most massage chairs under $3000 will only accommodate users up to 6’ tall and weighing about 220 pounds and that even chairs with leg extensions can only accommodate users up to about 6’3”, the Kahuna SM7300 is a really big deal.
It opens the market up to a group of users who have never had a chair made just for them, and that’s very good to see. Kudos to Kahuna for catering to the needs of this underserved segment of the market.
Having said that, let’s take a look “under the hood,” and see what features the Kahuna SM7300 has to offer.
Kahuna SM7300 Massage Chair Features
Hybrid L/S Track Design
Beginning with the track design that the chair was built around, right off the bat we see that Kahuna is sparing no expense. The Hybrid L/S track is cutting edge.
It provides all the benefits of the standard S-Track design, which allows the SM7300’s rollers to follow the natural curve of the spine, but then it goes further. By extending the length of the track, it also allows the rollers to reach the glutes and thighs, thus delivering a much better, more satisfying massage.
Six-Roller System
This is a fantastic feature. The current industry standard is the quad roller system, but Kahuna has introduced a six-roller system with this model. That’s bleeding edge technology in a mid-range chair, which is practically unheard of.
The massage you get from a six-roller system is notably better than what you get from quad-rollers.
It’s true that quad rollers do a good job of mimicking the feeling of human hands, but the presence of the extra rollers allow for more advanced roller motions that can be blended with existing massage techniques that quad-roller chairs just can’t match. It’s a heavenly experience, and one you’ll never tire of.
Space-Saving Design
This is a standard feature on the upper end of mid-range chairs, but rarely seen at the price this chair is offered at.
Kahuna has worked hard to improve their space-saving design, and the SM7300 only requires about three inches of space between the back of the chair and the wall you set it next to, in order to fully recline. A remarkable feat of engineering.
Zero Gravity Seating
This feature is always a welcome addition in any chair it’s found in. The SM7300 only offers a single Zero-G seating position, which is a bit of a mystery, because many of the company’s massage chairs offer two, or even three. Nevertheless, the fact that it has any at all is fantastic, and further improves the overall quality of the massage experience.
The way Zero-G seating works is this: by reclining to a position where the user’s knees are above the heart, more of your body weight is pressing down and against the rollers. This allows for a deeper and more penetrating massage, made even better by the fact that this model utilizes six, instead of four rollers.
3D Body Scanning
Making sure the rollers are hitting all your pressure points is one of the keys to maximizing therapeutic benefit. To that end, the Kahuna SM7300 massage chair features 3D Body Scanning Technology.
Before your massage begins, the chair takes a scan of your body and repositions the rollers to ensure an optimally beneficial experience.
Sometimes, however, the computer doesn’t quite hit the mark, so Kahuna has gone a step further. The remote also features buttons that allow you to manually adjust the position of the rollers, including the ability to make adjustments to the width of the massage field. That way, you’re guaranteed to get the perfect massage, every time.
Loaded with Options
At the price point, this chair is offered at, it’s got an incredible number of massage options available, including:
5 Massage Techniques
5 Auto Massage Programs
If that weren’t enough, the SM7300 also features a variety of different massage “modes” which were designed to cater to various broad groups of people:
Of course, if none of these are exactly what you’re looking for, you can always take control and create your own custom experience. In all cases, the various massages on offer (including the manual ones) can be further modified via three different intensity levels, from the remote.
Zone Massage Option
This is a nice feature included in many Kahuna models. When the rollers hit a particularly tender spot, you can press the “Zone” button on the remote, and the rollers will remain within six inches of their location when the button was pressed, to give that area extra attention, as needed.
Body Stretch Function
This is described on the remote as “Yoga Stretch” mode and is one of the pre-programmed massages offered, but it deserves a special mention here.
Few things provide greater therapeutic value or more immediate pain relief than a good body stretch, and Kahuna’s Yoga Stretch is excellent.
It’s also fairly vigorous and might take you by surprise the first time you make use of it. But by relieving pressure from compressed discs in your spine, it can offer pain relief when little else can. A wonderful addition to the chair.
Lumbar Heat
Many Kahuna models offer heat in both the lumbar region and in the leg massage ports, so it’s a bit of a mystery why that’s not the case here. But either way, the addition of heat is a most welcome feature addition.
Heat plus massage provides greater therapeutic benefit, and if you suffer from chronic lower back pain, this will probably be your favorite chair feature.
However, one minor complaint about the heat function is that there’s no way to adjust the temperature. You can either turn it on or leave it off. That’s not a deal breaker, but given how much control Kahuna gives you over most other aspects of your massage experience, it is disappointing.
Air Massage Mode
Although Kahuna does not specifically mention the number of airbags in this model, by reviewing the diagrams on the company’s web page relating to this model, there appear to be 32 Second Generation Airbags scattered throughout the chair.
This is sufficient to deliver a world-class, whole-body air massage, and the intensity can be adjusted through three different levels via the included remote.
Calf and Foot Massage
The calf massage is rendered by airbags located in the leg massage ports of the chair. It is excellent, but the remarkable thing to talk about in this section is the foot massage offered by the Kahuna SM 7300 massage chair. It is, simply put, one of the best you’ll get in any chair, regardless of price.
It is rendered by a methodology not found anywhere else. Three different techniques performed simultaneously on your feet: scraping, rolling, and kneading, which provides an almost magical and instantaneous feeling of relief.
If you spend several hours a day on your feet, then you’re going to love this feature, and your aching feet will too!
Extendable Ottoman
This is the secret to Kahuna SM7300’s success. By making the chair bigger than normal and including an extension module in the ottoman, Kahuna was able to craft a chair that can accommodate tall individuals who, before now, have never been offered a massage chair that was optimized for them.
Adjustable Timer
All the massages provided by the Kahuna SM7300 default to a ten-minute duration, but at your option, you can add time to any massage via the remote, in ten-minute increments, to a maximum duration of thirty minutes.
The ability to control the massage duration is a nice touch, and a most welcome feature addition.
(Fairly) Simple Remote
It goes without saying that a chair loaded with this many features is going to have a bit of a learning curve. You’ll be pleasantly surprised though at how easy the SM7300 is to use.
You can be enjoying your first massage in a matter of minutes, and with an hour or two of playing with the various features, you’ll be well on your way to mastering the chair. The remote is very well designed, and every feature is easily accessible. Kahuna did a great job on the layout.
LED Lighting
The Kahuna SM 7300 massage chair features soft, blue LED lights on the sides of the chair. If you’re sitting in a dimly lit room, these lights give off a soothing glow that helps you relax and enhances the massage experience.
Convenience Features
On just about any massage chair, it’s the leg ports that wind up showing signs of wear first, but Kahuna makes it easy to keep your chair looking like new. The outer covering can simply be unzipped, removed, and replaced when it begins to show its age.
Pros & Cons of the Kahuna SM 7300 Massage Chair
As you have seen, the Kahuna SM7300 massage chair is, by any reckoning, an awesome chair. Big, durable, well-designed, and filled with features, many of which have high therapeutic value. There’s a lot to like here, and yet, there are a few things we wish they’d done better, or included at all.
We’ve already mentioned the limitations of the heating function, and again, while that’s certainly not a deal breaker, calf heat and the ability to control the temperature would be a wonderful addition when they update this model.
Also, given how popular MP3 support is, we were somewhat mystified why it was left out of this design. As a designer, if the choice came down to offering LED lights or MP3 support, we would choose MP3 support in a heartbeat, because it is a vastly more popular feature, but – this chair doesn’t offer it.
Finally, since the chair already offers one Zero-G seating position, it seems like it would be easy to add two, or even three zero-gravity seating positions, which would further enhance the SM7300’s appeal.
Even combined, however, these complaints don’t do much to diminish this chair’s greatness.
Kahuna SM7300 Review Conclusion
No matter how you look at it, the Kahuna SM7300 massage chair is a masterwork, and, as one of the only chairs on the market today that cater specifically to big and tall users, if you fall into that category, this chair should be considered a perfect five stars. You simply won’t find a better value for your money.
It’s got plenty of features that offer high therapeutic value too, which makes it a great choice for people who suffer from chronic pain, regardless of your size, and is priced low enough that casual/hobbyist users will still find good value for their money.
In the final analysis then, this is an all-around great chair that comes highly recommended.
